Dinked 114 is the fifth album from folk-rocker Johnny Flynn, this time collaborating with Robert MacFarlane. Lost In The Cedar Wood is released on September 10th by Transgressive Records.
The relationship between Charlie Flynn and Robert MacFarlane has long been a fruitful one, with the writer appearing briefly on several of Flynn’s earlier work, but now, the pair are releasing their first full collaborative album. Born out of the beginnings of lockdown, Lost In The Cedar Wood was written between Flynn and MacFarlane using a back-and-forth of notebook pages, voice recordings and WhatsApp messages. The duo took inspiration from ancient myths and stories from history, using these as a lens to view the modern world through. The album was mainly recorded in an off-grid Hampshire cottage, deep in the forest, with Charlie Andrews (Alt-J, Marika Hackman) producing remotely, letting the sounds of birdsong and chainsaws around them leak onto the record. This is a truly beautiful album that feels both urgent and timeless.
