Despite being only 25 years old and her fresh-faced look on the album cover, Arizona singer-songwriter Andrews is already a near 10-year veteran of life on the road. Having been a backing singer for Jimmy Eat World and touring guitarist with Damien Jurado, it is with country music, so often the natural route for those looking to hone their songwriter chops, that Andrews has settled. Released through Loose Records, this 6th album (!) is a beautifully understated collection of lilting homespun Americana that showcases the purity of Andrews voice, a high and clear timeless sound akin to the greats Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell or more recent revivalists like Alela Diane and Caitlin Rose.
Sweetly melancholic and imbued with a stoic elegance, the songs on the album are very much in the tradition of great country music, with a 1970’s Laurel Canyon quality seeped into the fabric of the record. Swooning pedal steel meshes with piano and deft acoustic guitar melodies to create a truly timeless sound.
