Songhoy Blues – Music In Exile

A troupe of musicians from Timbuktu in Northern Mali forced into exile by armed jihadis. Under jihadi rule making-music became crime. Luckily these talented young musicians found a way to continue making music in Southern Mali where Africa Express took them under their wing. Their album is produced by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Songhoy Blues are influenced by Hendrix and John Lee Hooker and they slide effortlessly between contemporary and traditional.

Live the band are a thrilling proposition with front-man Aliou Touré a captivating, motivating mix of Fela Kuti and James Brown on stage, thankfully this energy has been captured on this most inspiring of records.

A Truck Store/ Rapture album of the year 2015
